Settlements of Gwenerh

Gwenerh is largely made up of large families that have made their living for centuries in the Elven mines or in the hills on the northern end of the Enclave. This has produced a population mostly composed of miners, smiths, and other artisans. Roughly 90% of the inhabitants of the settlements are Elves, with 10% being Dwarves choosing to live outside the mountains.

The head of House Sneha formally rules over Gwenerh and its surroundings on behalf of its liege lord, House Rylin.

Natural and Architectural Defense

The main settlement of Gwenerh employs a 'defense in depth' strategy. It is located in the midst of the limestone hills north of the valley and uses the topography as natural barriers that protect 60% of its border. The entrance to this valley is controlled by a series of fortified choke points and progressively stronger gatehouses.

Sentry towers are carved into the hills around the settlements, providing lethal archer nests that showcase Elven masonry.

Garrison

Since the Last Gwynt Rebellion in the Age of Light, House Sneha has kept a garrison of troops ready to protect the various mines under their protection, as well as the stores of materials waiting to be shipped. After the foundation of the Elemental Enclaves, the Steward of the Seasons began sending additional troops to ensure the security of the mines.

Contingency Tunnels

House Sneha long ago commissioned several tunnels to serve as escape routes for both the miners and the rare metals, particularly the mithril ore that has been mined.

Mining Operations

The mining of limestone, silver, iron, mithril, and gold keeps the settlement busy and is the main industry of the Settlements

Refinement

The initial refinement of many of the ores is another major industry of these settlements.

These settlements are located in the limestone cliffs that form the northern barrier of Maiden's Enclave. It is less hospitable than the main valley, but many say it has its charm.
