Sacking of Cuanaur
This was the opening conflict of the War for the Balance
The Conflict
Prelude
While the Maiden delighted in traveling around the Elven Valley, as it was called back then, it was known that she had a particular love for the ancient city of Mauribon, the capital of the Water Tribe. This caused continual envy between the Chieftains of the Fire Tribe (Fena Tomder) and the Air Tribe (Gale Gwynt), who had become irate at the perceived close relationship that their rival tribe had with their goddess. Thus, they plotted how to take Mauribon for their own, and allied to make sure that the Water Tribe would not be able to stand against them. The pair struck when the Maiden had to travel away from the Enclave on behalf of her Father.
Deployment
The Fire Tribe sent 3,000 troops across the delta of the Monour River at its delta, and another 4,500 Elves across the Cuanaur pass roughly 20 miles upstream.
Battlefield
Conditions
The attack took place in the early morning to maximize the surprise.
The Engagement
Attack at Dawn
The battle began with the unsettling sight of thousands of Elves approaching over land from the east and Elves traveling over the Monour River from the south.
Initial Panic
The Fire Tribe forces flooded the city streets as the unprepared defenders struggled to form a line against either front.
Plan to Escape
Belen Deigh quickly realized that there was no hope of victory, so she organized the remaining defenders to buy time for the three merchant ships in the port to be loaded with as many people, supplies, and treasure as possible.
Pursuit
The Fire Tribe pressed their advantage as the defenders broke and made for the ships, cutting down any who were too slow or disorganized. The rout was swift and brutal.
