The Forest of the Echos
Or the Original Wilds
Overview
The Forest of the Echos is a location somewhere in the northern hemisphere of the Layered Earth, in the general area of either the Northwest Territories of Canada, Alaska of the Cascadia Republic, the northern reaches of Siberia, or ██████ of the Scot-Highlands, depending upon when and where you are looking. It usually connects to Layer-Beta and Layer-Gamma. It is one of the original homes of the Chatter, having spawned, to the knowledge of the Chatter and Melody Society, ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, ‘We Listen and Learn’, and ‘What Goes Bump in the Night’. It is currently inhabited by several communities of faeries, yokai, folk-beings, fearsome critters, and talking fauna of all sorts. Its self-declared ruler is Utgard-Reverberate, or Reverberate of the Outyards, who is either an intelligent Siberian tiger, an intelligent North American moose, the Loch Ness Monster, or a lost INTRA-DIMENSIONAL CLASS entity by the proper name of Jonathan Johnson.Geography
General Terrain
The Forest is generally somewhat hilly, with some large mountains that reach barely above the tree line, a few valleys of various stones, and at least two river-carved ravines, one of which is the home to a colony of Wolpertingers, and those other of which is the domain of an Avon Snake. The most notable of these features is Bonedry Mountain, which rarely gets rain and is home to a massive deposit of █████████.Ground Makeup and Mineral Content
The dirt of the Forest is very rich with nutrients, so much so that the ground level is nearly un-traversable on foot due to all the foliage. The exact makeup is unknown, as all attempts to study it has resulted in a at least five-percent unaccounted for ratio that appears as a glitch, mistake, or other such imperfection in the study method used, be it mundane or supernatural.History
The Forest of Echos is perhaps the best documented of all the known Era-based pocket dimensions. Historians theorize that everything from the tales of King Arthur and Robin Hood to Rip Van Winkle and El Dorado could originate from ordinary people encountering the Forest.
In the modern day [as with most of the Era-based pocket dimensions], many supernatural-affiliated groups have interests in the Forest. The International Paranatural Council {IPC} and the Inter-Cultural League {ICL} define the Forest’s borders as being a neutral nature reserve, making use of the Forest for military purposes an international crime [if they’d actually have the time to enforce that law]. The Chatter & Melody Society {CMS} maintains a small research outpost on the north face of Bonedry Mountain, whose inhabitants share in the protection of the Forest’s neutral status. The Forest is also, unsurprisingly, a pilgrimage site for worshippers of the Chatter; most notably, the Novo Druidic Circle of Britannia has a shrine built between the border of the Forest and ████████, England. The supernatural branches of various governments have also shown interest in the Forest, most in direct opposition to the laws of the IPC and ICL. Evidence of undisclosed research bases belonging to the Shooting Star Division, as well as code sigils commonly used by both MI6’s Paranatural Directorate and the CIA’s Paranatural Wing, have been found in the Forest. The Department of the Unknown has denied that they have ever set foot into the Forest beyond simple survey expeditions.
