Xind Moonridge

Lord High Priest Xind Moonridge of Ilfew

I am often told that we did what must be done. That without our actions, the world would be forever doomed to a cycle of decay without salvation, where a moment's pause would see you fall to the sea.   And now, as I see what we have built, I must ask - did the benefit outweigh the consequence?
— Xind Moonridge
Xind Moonridge was a halfling-tiefling cleric of the Entangled King. Dedicating himself to service in the Aremari from a young age, the organisations success in slaying the all-powerful ██████████ left the priest disillusioned and bitter, and he would die only nine years after the construction of the city of Vilaen.

History

Born on a small island in the vast Finuhit Ocean, Xind's tiefling status saw him cast from his home village into the waiting arms of a local church to the Entangled King, whose tenets about the preservation of life ensured he was well cared for in his youth. He would later join the church as a priest under the tutelage of Sitis Kalnuth, and helped the church relocate when it was threatened by the Current of the World.   During the relocation he was aided by the Aremari, who swiftly recruited the young cleric and his master into their organisation. After a few years of work, the organisation identified a potential method of protecting locations from the current, and raised a group to attack a ██████████ to obtain the necessary materials. Of the twenty individuals sent on this task, only three survived - Xind, a witch named Yllas, and a powerful wizard called Rhizi. They returned with the spoils of their battle, though Xind quickly descended into intense grief over his failure to save the other 17, who included Sitis in their number.   This grief was compounded by Xind's sudden prominence within his church, which put him into contact with a great many people who disapproved of his role in the "murder" of the ██████████. Throughout the construction of the first city not subject to the Current's endless pull, he made multiple attempts to convince the Aremari to make some sort of statement or show of understanding for the gravity of what they had done, but due to his youth he was roundly ignored.   When most of the Aremari moved into the new city of Vilaen, Xind returned to his home community and continued the island-hop as the Current demanded, refusing multiple housing offers. He would die only 9 years after the city was built, having returned to a doomed island and not escaping before it fell over the World's Edge.

Our reliance on him for our success seems at odds now with his distance from us, but I cannot say I blame him. We have done something difficult, and he was young - too young, perhaps. We should not have burdened a mere boy so.

Memento

While Rhizi claimed the █████ of their quarry to create a fearsome staff, and Yllas gained ██████ as a consequence of the battle, Xind took no boon from that which the Aremari toiled to fell.   Instead, Xind is known to have only taken a memento from his fallen master Sitis Kalnuth. A simple wood carving of a tangled tree which had served as the champion's focus of his faith, Xind kept it close to him for the rest of his short life.
