Monster Rifts
Every monster rift is a pocket dimension. Occasionally monsters will empty out, and those adventurers who have seen the other side acknowledge that these rifts occasionally spawn monsters. The witnesses of this see black goo raising out of the floor and then turning into the monster.
Inside the pocket dimensions there are dungeons. A cruel trick by whoever placed these, there are many traps and treasures inside of each one. Many believe that this is some kind of entertainment by the dark god who placed these.
These dungeons are of many different themes. Adventurers have reported seeing plains inside of them, jungles, one without walls that seemed to have no bottom if you were to fall and many of them are simply a large, murky building. Generally the monsters stick with these themes as well.
Noticeably, if there are weaker monsters in an area, then there is a rift that is creating those weaker monsters. Otherwise, if there are monsters that a party cannot handle, it is recommended that they do not enter the rift.
At the end of every rift there is a larger monster, called the boss by many adventurers. This boss guards the exit, and once you exit the rift the rift closes.
