Vampire
Vampires are those afflicted by hemophilia vampiris, a magical disease that transforms a person into a vampire if left untreated. One can also be born with this disease if either parent had it. While vampires are indeed undead, still having their soul grants them the ability to resist necromantic domination though they can be dominated by the will of the direct 'bloodline' of their vampiric family.
The legend that vampires need to drink blood of living creatures is only half true. Vampires can subsist on other food, though it nourishes them poorly. Blood not only properly sustains them, but is also a narcotic to them.
Sunlight remains deadly to all but the most powerful, however. Even the most powerful find themselves greatly weakened by it.
