Kartos Everwatcher

Kartos Everwatcher is perhaps one of the oldest living beings on Arrakos. Once an elf, Kartos was born during the end of the Solisian Empire, and was educated in powerful magics and the most secret lore. However, while would have been destined for great things, Kartos preferred to keep to his studies and wanted to prolong his own life with magic so he could see all the wonders life had to offer him.   His work was successful, and he retained his youthful appearance for many years, fuelled by magic. In the thousands of years that followed, he wrote prolifically, becoming known as the "World's Historian" for his accurate, unbiased portrayals of historical events. He taught in many growing kingdoms, hoping to impart his wisdom and learnings so that future generations would learn of the mistakes and wonders of the past.   But his body still aged, and it just did so slowly, even for an elf. Still wanting to see how the future would turn out, Kartos deliberately infected himself during the Grey Death, and returned as one of the undead. However, having been so powerful in life he was able to resist the control of the necromancers, and simply continued his historical works in his new, near immortal, body.   Since then he has long since become but a powerful skeletal mage, and continues to travel, often in secret and in disguises. For those that meet him, it usually means he has come to record something of great import, or simply wishes to chat. Many places of education still seek out the books he writes, for his quality is the best.   Interestingly, despite being undead, he is not cruel or vindictive. And is well known to care for stray cats.
