Gnoll
At first glance one would think a gnoll is nothing more than an anthromorph. And while there has been some cross-breeding over the years, gnolls are an entirely different species.
Gnolls are a fearsome species with strong bodies, senses and savage tendencies. And, though most scholars would say otherwise, a rather intelligent mind. However, gnolls are shunned in most societies because of their origins, and this has created a species of savage tribes, mercenaries and loners.
Of the origin of the gnolls, that is well documented. All gnolls trace their lineage back to either Lerund (where their origins remain a mystery) or to the Sundering. During the Sundering a mercenary army, known as the Gnollguard, sought to gain power and conquer the lands that had been wracked by the devastation. To do so they made a deal with a demon for power beyond mortals. The consequence of this was the demon mutated them into powerful monsters, the very first gnolls.
The original beasts were eventually slain, but not before siring enough new gnolls to begin a race of savage monsters.
