The Lost City of Na'Voo

The Lost City of Na'Voo

Post-Siphoning, all settlements from the Old World in Nijhtrieva had been lost to the Óssidian Sands. Until the year 3476, when the largest earthquake known to Aelwyn opened up a great chasm just beyond the Draken Spine* The City of Na'Voo, once a place of untapped wealth and beauty, had been lost to the modern world; and although its architecture was stained from the changes to the landscape, the structures of ornate materials, precious gems and gold was practically untouched. Until scavengers stumbled upon it. Ridding the city of some of its original beauty quickly garnered the attention of Archaeologists and historians, however, and soon many neighbouring rulers sent their best and brightest to uncover the city and build a place of safety for travellers and traders crossing the desert.
They quickly found that even the gold and gemstones of the city had been cursed by the gods so that nobody could use them, crumbling to dust upon leaving the city, further rubbing salt into the wound a millennium later, that Nijhtrieva had truly doomed the lands of Aelwyn. However the resources were still vast; marble, luminescent formations, old technology and lost knowledge. And after many years of growth from the archaeologists who continue to uncover deeper parts to the city, to the adventurers hired to protect them from unexpected horrors lurking in the caverns - not to mention the wealthy wanting to utilise the cheaper properties and resources, the traders and travellers seeking a place to call home, and those wanting to hide from their lives (or hide their less than legal ongoings) - the settlement formed into a city.
With a variety of guilds forming and claiming space within the city, governing of any kind was very much needed. And so, to quell the illegal activity and unending conflict, The Council of Mi’el was formed. Named after the Godling of Legacy, the council pledged to form a new and brighter legacy for the desert region than the scorn the history of Nijhtrieva still hung over them. A councilman was appointed from each guild so that each could have their say in how the city should be run; the first democracy in Aelwyn.

"You are not prepared for the nightlife of Na'Voo. Picture, if you will, an eclectic mix of cultures from a ramshackled mass of old architecture buildings turned city living. Now imagine the people, and what they'd want from an underground escape from reality. Now tell me, onwards to the Luxling district where a nice neat tavern awaits us with endless Mole Claws on sticks, or on to the Veiled Tapestry district where the Gods likely do not watch over? Your choice."

The Lost City of Na'Vo is made up of old architecture from the original city, uncovered out of the black cavern walls of the chasm, mixed with new buildings of the modern-day. In the lower economic areas of the city there is a lot more drapery and ropes pulling tapestries together to hide or disguise the ramshackle homes and haphazardly strewn centres. In the more wealthy areas of the Lost City, gemstones and rarities have been replaced or restored to appear as the lost city had once been, highlighting the extravagant nature of the people who live there and the wealth of the area itself.

The *Draken Spine: A series of humongous spikes of Óssidian that rise up from the sands like the spines of a long lost creature of the Old World.
