Tachyon networks
Tachyon networks are a very expensive system to implement, but for corporations and governments that need near instant communication across hundreds of light years, it's worth the investment. Because tachyons travel faster than light, and when sent through subspace incredibly fast, they reach far places very quickly. It's not instantaneous, though it has minimal lag. A signal can travel 100 light years in less than 30 seconds.
Tachyon signals are usually received by a systems Navigation Beacon, and then converted to a local subspace broadcast to be received by ships, and homes in the system. This system is often used by Entertainment Networks, such as Interstellar Network News. There is also rumors that Jumpcorp has an extensive tachyon network. However, this has not been confirmed outside the corporation.
Tachyon receivers are an expensive upgrade to nav beacons. For populated systems, networks that want to broadcast to the system will each pay part of the cost to add the tachyon receiver so that they get the beacons code to broadcast to. For systems that do not have a settlement, or don't have a large enough settlement for the network to want to broadcast to, the network will not be available there.
Access & Availability
Tachyon broadcast systems are expensive to build, making them limited to large corporations, and government organizations such as the military.
Discovery
Tachyon were theoretical until 2680 OER. However, it took another two-hundred years before it was possible to harness the technology into something useful.
