Edler

The lowest form of nobility in the known world, the title Edler, literal translation to 'young noble,' is associated with the local, grassroots-aristocracy that include everything from wealthy landowners to prosperous merchants. Though still above the commoner, other nobility view them as little more than that. Typically where Edlermen tend to be the long established families in the different burghers that are throughout the known world. These families find they hold the most influence in local politics; things like granting of permits or local excise taxes.    Since there is little acquired with the passing of this title, many of the sons and daughters of Edlermen try to seek their fortunes in other pursuits rather then depending solely upon the inheriting of their families titles. These 'young nobles' are often found among adventures, explorers, aggressive entrepreneurs, knightly orders, mercenaries, or, if desperate enough, even highwaymen.
