Nero
Lord of the Dead
The god of all those who have passed away to the afterlife. Despite many peoples view on death, Nero not an evil god in any way. Servants of the Shepard of the Lost understand that everything that lives much eventually come to an end and as disciples of Nero, their goal is to help others get through periods of loss and protect the sacred cycle of life unto death.
Being a God of such heavy domain, Nero is said to be very serious and strict. He is not a very anger god, but he is known to deal a fitting punishment for those who sees as destroying the sanctity of what it means to be alive. In old myths about Nero it is said that once he had a family: wife and young child, but unfortunately they died. It is said that the souls of his wife, Nona, and son, Tectus, became the Redset River, the extraplanar space that guides souls to their afterlife.
Nero is depicted as a hooded figured, dressed entirely in black and red. No part of his body is revealed. He wields the Midnight Sceptre, a powerful magic staff. Nero is not the best combatant when it comes to raw, physical strength, but in the field of magic he is a grand and mighty mage. The Midnight Sceptre is said to balance the force of life and death with it's counterpart the Dawn Lantern owned by Atticus.
Divine Domains
Being the God of the Dead, domains to do with life, such as the life domain and grave domain make perfect sense as they are trying to balance the life cycle, one of the main goals of Nero. While typically reserved for evil gods, a death cleric in service of Nero may be a specialist agent - one whose job is to ensure people do usually powers of negative energy to deal swift death to those who need it.
Artifacts
Midnight Sceptre. The previously mentioned powerful staff of Nero. It has been theorised that the staff could potentially revive people that died from an indefinite period of time, a feat only achievable at a God's level. While Nero is the owner of the staff, in certain dire circumstances he has gifted the staff for small periods of time.
Our party was only the verge of certain doom Baslroth, the Onyx Skull, had already killed Renshii, our elven samurai, with a single word. That's when I felt a surge of life, as a black staff was summoned through my chest. I grabbed it and slammed it to the ground, and Baslroth was reduced to ash. I was even able to bring back Renshii. Then the staff disappeared, as Nero regained his sceptre.-Julianne Peregrine, High Cleric of Nero
Divine Symbols & Sigils
The skull is the standard holy symbol of Nero. There are a few others, most notable being the Ouroboros (a snake eating its own tail forming a circle).
Nero bears the 'Death Sigil' and is drawn as an empty circle '◯' it is the counterpart of the 'Soul Sigil' carried by Atticus. Most spells in the school of Necromancy use the Death Sigil.
Tenets of Faith
The core belief for the followers of Nero is that all things must come to an end. All life would lack purpose if not for its death. As such, life is something that should be enjoyed and celebrate and when death does eventually come, it should be a moment of reflection to look back at a life well spent rather than time now lost. Followers of Nero are acclimated to the idea of death and accept it, they help others come to accept the idea too and help people with the grieving of a loved one because while losing someone is upsetting - wallowing away and wasting your life as a result is never an answer.
