Niska

Niska is a moderately sized town at the western edge of our proud kingdom of Eredhen, in a region known by many folk as the West Marches. The town rests on the Edmon Plain and is the main hub for a few small suburban communities, mostly based around agriculture. It is home to between three thousand and four thousand souls, making it the biggest inhabited center in the surrounding lands. Niska's extreme remoteness has contributed to its reputation as an underdeveloped backwater, attracting an assortment of misfits and outcasts from all over the kingdom and beyond. The untamed wilderness around the town is the stuff of many a legend, promising adventure and untold riches alike. His majesty prefers to not speak much of Niska, although reports indicate the town is, for all intents and purposes, relatively safe, as long as one does not venture beyond its walls. The Kingdom of Eredhen maintains a garrison of 300 guards in Niska to secure the borderland.   The Village itself is source of moderate wealth in the empire due to its mines and many artisans, it is famous for its architecture, food, and of course Sybil’s Tavern. Though there is something it is known for even more so than that. The Border-City is known as the den of adventurers. At the far reaches of the west, lay only the untamed wilds not truly settled by the mortal races since the great Mageocracy that preceded Eredhen some 1,000 years ago. The city itself is a curious mutant of ancient elven and modern human design and there are even some sections of the city that have remained completely intact as to how they would look in the days of the full power of the great elven empire.
