Harpy

Biology

Harpies are quite large for medium-sized pterosaurs, with a body height of 2.1 meters standing on all 4 legs and a wingspan of 5 meters. Like all other pterosaurs, they are covered in filaments known as pycnofibers, including an excessive grouping of extra-long filaments that give the face the long hair of a human woman; these filaments are gray and white throughout the body, with lighter shades. dark on the wings and reddish colors on the head, but they lack these filaments on the snout, a vestige of the beaks of their ancestors, which show tan or yellow skin. Male harpies are equipped with a crest similar to that of the Pterosaur Nyctosaurus, in addition to air sacs, these are also found in females, the difference is the position, in males it is near the neck, serving for mating and in females. females on the chest, vaguely resembling a pair of mammalian breasts, which serves in food storage. While most of them have a preference for early summer, they can mate at any time during the year, although their desire to do so is quite low, during courtship a male will inflate his air sac as much as he can after collecting as many objects and food as possible and will hope that a female is attracted to the size of her pouch and shares his tastes, and that the other males that are also commonly present do not end up becoming the victors. Harpies have a lifespan of 30 years, but the oldest known individual has been reported to be 54 years old. Harpies are strict carnivores, mainly piscivores, they feed on small reptiles such as Hylonomus or Coelurosauravus, they also feed on all types of fish, and in case of shortage they can eat DragonSkins.

Behavior

Harpies build large but primitive nests in the Island's swamps, on top of trees with submerged roots and made of collected foliage; females can have up to 15 or 30 eggs. They use simple, easy-to-use tools, whether they make them themselves or take some of the expeditions, including ropes, pans, pots, and basic primitive knives made from various minerals. Harpies are also capable of simple speech, even with human words and language, similar to crows, and can maintain very simple conversations, but they lack the intellect necessary to address moderately complicated and advanced topics.
