Allosaurus

Biology

These large, ferocious cloud forest-dwelling creatures are magnificent predators that can hunt sauropods like Diplodocus, Camarasaurus or Amargasaurus when in groups. Allosaurus are predators well equipped for life on the Island. Their eyes function very similar to those of a cat, which allowed them to see in low light. Allosaurus tend to ambush their prey, getting as close as possible before coming out of hiding and chasing them. Allosaurus are very efficient at using the island's terrain to their advantage, chasing their prey through canyons or low cliffs. The Allosaurus are, with the exception of the Tarbosaurus and all the super predators, the most dangerous apex predators that could be found on the Island. Group hunters, the Allosaurus are fit and cunning killing machines, top-level predators, capable of take on the biggest prey the Island has to offer.

Behavior

Allosaurus live in groups of four to six or a few young. They prefer jungles to open grasslands, as thick forests provide shelter and nests for their young. Allosaurus nests are excavated among the roots of giant jungle trees. All hatchlings are the responsibility of the entire group, which brings food for the hatchlings. While they hunt, a single guard stays behind, watching over the nest. Hunting territories are large and well marked, with a mixture of tree scrapes, urine, feces and the like. Other groups may dispute territory from time to time, with much posturing and noisy displays designed to resolve the dispute before violence breaks out. Sometimes they hide for an ambush by burying themselves in the rubble of the area.

They are distinguishable from Saurphaganax due to the difference in size, with Allosaurus being smaller and Allosaurus also living deeper in the cloud forest.
