Era beginning/end

The day men arrived on giant waves.

The unknown island became a sanctuary for families lost at sea in a huge storm. Most died in giant wave crashing on southern shores. Some survived and when the storm cleared, they build pyres to alert ships passing by of their pressence. Alas most ships which came were damaged in the storm or stranded with little crew. They used the wood from wrecked ships to build their first settlement on the southern shores and drew the white sails as roofs of makeshift shelters.
