The Party is founded; Xu elected secretary, Auburn elected spokesman

Political event

1960

SAN FRANCISCO – A new left-wing coalition party is formed in California, led by Xu and Auburn.

A group of new-left radicals begins meeting in San Francisco, with each member acting as a delegate in support of their own particular cause. Together they draft a platform and agree to promote an intra-left-wing truce with their respective peers. Linda Xu, initially affiliated with the Red Guard Party, is elected as party secretary and abandons her previous post. Alton Auburn, a radical secessionist, is chosen as spokesperson, in the hope that his approachable manner, clean-cut All-American appearance and eloquent speech will grant the new party some legitimacy.
