Mounting & Dismounting
Mounting or dismounting from a mount requires a maneuver. When mounted, the character and their mount silhouette Typically, no Riding skill check is required to mount or dismount unless there are extraordinary circumstances. A character can only mount an animal if it's silhouette is at least one higher than it's own. The GM has final say on which adversaries are mountable and which are not.Moving While Mounted
By performing a maneuver to direct the mount to move, the rider and mount move as if they had performed two maneuvers to do so. If the character is on a flying mount, the rider and mount move as if they had performed three maneuvers to do so. Normal movement does not require a Riding skill check, but special maneuvers may not only require a check but also the GM may assign b or b as deemed appropriate to the situation. A mounted character does not pay the normal stress penalty for disengaging from hostile adversaries.Melee Combat While Mounted
Once mounted, a rider and it's mount are considered to be a single target for most purposes, with a silhouette equal the mount's silhouette. As such, when attacking an unmounted target from atop of a mount the mounted character will typically have a larger silhouette than it's unmounted target and add the normal amount of b as normal. In contrast, an unmounted adversary attacking a mounted target will typically have at least one b when attacking a mounted target. Additionally, a melee attacker can utilize the power and speed of their mount while attacking. When a mounted character uses a Move maneuver to move into engaged range of an adversary, the next melee attack action they take targeting the adversary this turn is automatically upgraded.Ranged Combat & Spellcasting While Mounted
While a rider is on a mount, the mounted character increases the difficulty of all Ranged Combat checks and Magic Checks they attempt. If the character has not already moved on their turn, they make spend a maneuver to "steady" their mount and ignore this penalty. A steadied mount is not able to take a move maneuver for the rest of their turn. As a mounted character typically has a larger silhouette than normal a rider will also need to ensure they are adding an appropriate number of b when attacking targets with a smaller silhouette than their own.Targeting a Mount or Rider
Generally, a mounted character and their mount are treated successful is by using the Aim maneuver (and take bb as per Aim / Flourish).Slain or Incapacitated Mount
If a character is riding the mount when it is slain or incapacitated, the character must make a Hard (ddd) Riding skill check or suffer 3 strain and 3 wounds and be knocked prone. Of course, if the character is riding a flying or swimming mount, additional circumstances (such as falling or drowning) may be the result.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
