Cover
When the guns start firing, most characters dive for
cover. To keep things simple, being behind some sort
of cover—a rock, crate, wall, or vehicle, for example—
allows the character to gain a ranged defense of 1 and
adds b to certain skill checks, such as Perception. A
single b is sufficient for most situations, although the
GM may add additional b if the target is particularly
well covered, such as if they are within a trench, blockhouse,
bunker, or any other prepared position. The
same holds true for the increase in ranged defense.
