Arcane Magic
Magical Power Granted From Expertise & Study
Arcane magic is the expression of understanding and mastery over the primal magical forces that flow through all life in Alwaus. Created, refined, and mastered by the Alvain, the knowledge and skills nessasary to practice true arcane magic is rare outside of the Alvain race itself. While it's not rare for beings across a dozen species to display a proficiency for accessing magical energies, only a rare few possess the intellect and patient required to become a master of the arcane arts. Most Alvain only learn true master after centuries of study, so any of the mortal races that attempt to unwind the knot of arcane knowledge often find themselves aged and weary before they can even crack the surface. Depsite this, Alvantes has made note of an alarming incline in the amount of human's who have been able to demonstrate an applicable for arcane mastery - particarly with destructive spells and augmentations.
Side/Secondary Effects
Like all magic, arcane magic requires immense energy to produce. Caloric intake for Arcanists must be closely monitored, and reckless arcanists are frequently killed by overextending themselves, either through ambition or carless application of spellcraft.
Manifestation
All spell effects create a visual and audio response when the energy being held is released. The exact nature of the this effect is variable between spells and arcanist's. Some skilled arcanists are even able to surpress this display with underlying spells, although with great difficultly.
Source
Magic flows through all beings in the world of Alwaus. This energy can be tapped into by certain individuals, and those who are able to learn and study the rules and restrictions of arcane magic are able to bend this energy to their will.
The exact source of magical energy is of great debate. Regardless, an arcanist is able to tap into this power and harness it with a magical implement (usually a staff or wand) and unleash it's potential. Arcanists have spent lifetimes studying exactly how and why magic responds to specific words and phrases, but mapping and understanding the relationship between these semantics is paramount for the success of any arcanist.

Discovery
The discovery of the arcane arts has unfortunately been lost to the echoes of time. Even the long memories of the Alvian can not recall who first whispered the phrases nessasary to produce rain and fire, but what is well documented if how the first arcanists were instrumental in the destruction of the now extict race of dragons.
