The Oath of Jharana

The Oath of Jharana was created by Adinath Anand, a scholar intent on using magic related to the gods and goddesses to better the people of the world, particularly weredragons. This oath grants those who take it special abilities, each ability related to each line. Should the oath taker blatantly break part of this oath, they are said to be struck down by Jharana herself.

By the love of the goddess, I vow to bring--

swift death to those that would kill,

protection to those that are innocent,

no harm to another without cause,

honest words to my allies,

and openness to change, in myself and others.

--The Oath of Jharana
The oath grants the oath taker, in order of correlation to each line; inhuman speed, inhuman self healing, resistance to fire, telepathic abilities among other oath takers, and manipulation over water. The Order of Ichneumon and The Red Ichneumon are two organizations most known for using this oath.

Oath Breaking and Ability Levels

When the oath is broken by an oath taker, Jharana is said to "strike down" the offender. Her means is not one set action, like a heart attack or being struck by lightning. There are records of oath takers dying moments after a blatant break of the oath, but the cause of death always appears incidental--a bull randomly charging into the offender, a sign or barrel falling on them, or the offender slipping on a wet floor and breaking their neck. There is no known survivor of breaking the oath to this day.   While blatant offenses are punished, the criteria for breaking the oath can be particular. For example, omitting the truth does not seem to be considered a lie, or at least not breaking the oath. Lying to an enemy (murderer, thief, etc.) does not seem to count either, though lying to another oath taker or an "innocent," does. However, Jharana's and Anand's teaching do not condone omitting the truth, or lying, even to murderers and thieves.   Because of this, there is room for one to be "better" at upholding parts of the oath than others, which theoretically impacts one's abilities. For example, it is said that a more openly honest person can have a wider range of telepathy, and those that go out of their way to protect others heal much faster and can survive the most mortal of wounds.

Revoking the Oath

There is said to be a means of revoking the oath, created by Anand himself, a process that cannot be undone and removes the abilities the oath gives. However, the current means of doing this is unknown, The Red Ichneumon claiming it to be a myth.
