The Torr's Mercy

Slogan: 'Your deeds will light a path in the dark.'

Introduction

The Torr's Mercy is the charitable organisation led by the The Knights of the Torr or the Knights of Amotorr. The Knights are a secretive organisation within the Sanctuary at Amotorr.

Their public purpose is to provide support to the locals of Amorvale - Clan Hoershal gifted the lands to The Sanctuary a few centuries ago.
Amorvale is now a remote but thriving community, partly due to the Seers' diligence and support.

Organisation and Structure

The three brotherhood leaders carefully choose the Knights as their other duty is to keep secret and guard the ancient The Ouma Caves. Junior Knights are usually unaware of the Caves' secrets until much later in their career with the Knights. The Knight-guardians have time to mentor and form the young seers before they are initiated into the brotherhood's secret.

Most Knights join in to make a difference and are genuine in their vocation. There are only 15 or so Knights at any one time. The brotherhood is not as popular as others as it does not confer any political advancement to its members. It is in fact, a test of character, and worthy Knights advance further into the brotherhood on the back of their devotion and good deeds.
For a more in-depth look at the organisation and leaders of the Knights, see the article about the The Knights of the Torr.

Day-to-day, the charity is organised in three different 'musters' or houses.

The Brightscroll

brightis a dedicated group of Deskers and Keepers who help the people of Amorvale with all their scribing. Villagers from Benamor and the surrounding hamlets are welcome weekly in an office near Amotorr's gate. There, a Wiseman or Desker will help write letters and missives for the price of an offering to Brigand - whatever the supplicant can afford.

The Brightscroll is also present in Benamore during the days of the Fayres throughout the year. The Brightscroll is also a way for the Knights to be aware of what is happening throughout the vale, though the Knights are sworn to secrecy over their scribing unless it endangers the safety of the Vale and Alven.

The Brightscroll, and the Wisemen at large also tutor and foster bright young sparks from the Vale who would like to sit the The Assays when they come of age. The youngsters, from the age of 10 or 12, are fostered, brought up and educated within the Sanctuary.
They are still called fosterlings but reside in their own special building, affectionately called 'The Nursery'. Tide Moran was one of the younger fosterlings in Amotorr.

When his parents passed away, the Hoershall The Clanbearers and his uncle (name? dead now), in particular, sent him to be educated at Amotorr - a means to keep Tide away from the political turmoil the clan was experiencing at the time.

Currently, 8 children and teenagers reside in the Nursery, the youngest being 12 years old: Ashaden Brayfort (Clan Eaglesham). The boy is very active and boisterous. Ashaden is seen darting in and out from under Seers' feet. Maybe page to one of the Sanctuary leaders?

The Whitebranch

Sanctuary Seers are not explicitly trained medically, but some have a sound knowledge of herbs and biology - which makes them particularly suited to look after the health of the Sanctuary. A few Knights dedicate themselves to bringing cures and remedies to the Sanctuary and also, the Vale and are part of the Whitebranch.

Benamore has its own healers, but the Sanctuary provides succour to the poorest, who cannot pay the healers the price they demand.
Three times a week, a contingent of Knights, again likely Keepers, open a surgery in a workshop beside the Scroll Nook called the Wellnook. The local population attends the Wellnook regularly; Truthseekers and other younger keepers often lend a hand.

The Knight in charge of the Wellnook is biology and researcher extraordinaire, Elder Keeper Melody Gardin. She is one of the few elder Knights who is not fully aware of the Ouma Caves - and does not care. Her sights are firmly on scientific advancement.

The Grainhart

Knights of the Grainhart visit the poorest or handicapped, incapacitated inhabitants of the vale and attend to their first needs: food, help with repairs, etc. This is the organisation's heart, and a few idealistic young knights are allowed twice a week to leave the Sanctuary under the lead of an older Seer to do their 'rounds' on behalf of the Sanctuary and the goddess.

Fosterlings and Truthseekers are first attracted to the Grainhart's charitable work as the rounds allow them to leave the Sanctuary for a while. However, a Knight's work is never done, and only the hardiest of souls stay for the long term. The Sanctuary always dedicates a portion of its resources to the Grainhart. This is stipulated in its charter.
