Right, I'm doing this!
MY TEN ARTICLES
For the challenge, I wanted to read articles from WA worlds that I do not follow yet. There are so many Anvilites with great articles on here but, because of the sheer amount of words published every day, they do not get a chance to be in the spotlight. I was on the hunt for originality and great slabs of imagination, and here is what I found.
Article 1 - 'Trinitism' by Dangersenss
WORLD: OMERIA
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/omeria-dangersenss/a/trinitism-organization
I have been stuck on an article about one of the main organizations in my world for some time now. The evil 'Archive; has got me stumped! This is why the first Worldember category I wanted to explore was Organisation. I was looking for some inspiration and ideas on how to organize the body of my 'Archive' article. When I started to read Dangersenss' 'Trinitism' article, I realized that I was overcomplicating things - here was a well-written article, neat and concise with all you needed to know about an organization. Not too much was divulged, just enough. I have taken note of the different sections in the article and will make good use of the information when the time comes.
Article 2 - 'The Starflame Kingdom of the Drow' by Iocradedev
World: Iocrade
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/iocrade-iocradedev/a/the-starflame-kingdom-of-the-drow-organization
Still looking for more articles in the organization section, I came across this very detailed and super imaginative article on a drow kingdom. I was enthralled and disgusted at the same time by the society portrayed in the article. I thought the whole agricultural section was very thought-provoking and original: the cultivation of amoeba, the 'cave caviar' (no, you don't want to know about that!). I also liked the presence of Fungus Queens with the same status as Drows, and their 'infectious' influence on the slave population, etc. Very well thought out. I have bookmarked the article and will come back to it many times I think.
Article 3 - 'The Dock Rats' by Mark0
World: Taeva
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/taeva-mark0/a/the-dock-rats-organization
Once I started looking through the 93 entries for the organization template, I could not stop! It was hard to choose a third article from that section but I had to read and comment on Mark0's 'Dock Rats'. What a brilliant idea for a harbor town, plus I loved the fact that the rats from humble beginnings, end up being the most powerful crime organization in the area!
Article 4 - 'The Fiuthnollan Yellow Jackets' by Iocradedev
World: Iocrade
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/iocrade-iocradedev/a/the-fiuthnollan-yellow-jackets-formation
I then moved my attention to another template I am not very familiar with: 'Military Formation'. Strangely enough, it ties in with the blank I have been drawing on my Archive article - the Archive being also a military organization within the country. So I was looking for some more inspiration. I started reading a few articles but nothing was really grabbing me until I clicked on 'the Fiuthnollan Yellow Jackets'. It was only after I was halfway through the article that I noticed it was by Iocradedev again. I was really interested in their somewhat Napoleonic take on an infantry unit - I particularly liked the story of the uniforms and the traditions were also an amazing read. Another article of them I have bookmarked for re-reading and inspiration.
Article 5 - 'Kharoush' by Imoen Kim
World: Yvari
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/yvari-imoenkim/a/kharoush-rank
I was clicking for a while on the 'rank' template entries before I could relate to one of them, but 'Kharoush' got me thinking about the ranks of women and women's organizations in my own world. I really like the way the rank of 'Kharoush' has power in Yvari. It is respected and even feared by the people in charge. Great inspiration for a powerful mainly female organization in my world.
Article 6 - 'White Forests' by Naelin
World: Symbols of Power
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/symbols-of-power-naelin/a/white-forests-law
I was immediately attracted to Naelin's beautiful drawings of the white trees in his magical forest. It is an ambition of mine (I really don't know when I'll have the time for this) to start making simple sketches of the flora in my homegrown world of Alven. Looking at this gave me a nudge in the right direction. Also, the following description of the forest flora and fauna is charming and shows great imagination.
Article 7 - 'Murkman' by TerinHD
World: Tempest
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/tempest-terinhd/a/murkman-profession
I did not have to look long to find something I could use as an inspiration in the profession template entries. The mix of the mundane and magic was very skillfully developed and explained in TerinHD's article. That made me think I needed a lot more of this in my own world. How would different sets of circumstances, including magical laws and practices, affect everyday jobs like bakers, masons, cleaners? Really interesting.
Article 8 -'Book Guardian' by Firethorndragon
World: Aurin
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/aurin-firethorndragon/a/book-guardian-profession
Well, if you've been reading this lengthy prose from the start, you can guess why I was very much interested in an article called 'Book Guardian'! The Archive was strong with this one and it did not disappoint. The first quote was already a great hook: 'My job is to know everything; do you really think that you know more than me?' I also got loads of pointers for a Librarian order, which I was looking for. Great article.
Article 9 - 'Dire Meats' by Mezzopatricia
World: OperaQuest
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/operaquest-mezzopatricia/a/dire-meats-item
I was looking for a cool magical item article and I found this - what do monster hunters do with their kills? Now I know! They sell them for meat! Like the profession article, I mentioned earlier, really good food for the imagination. What would the Alvenites do with the meat of their crazy fauna? I bet there would be a very healthy black market for 'exotic' meat in Highfort (the capital) at least.
Article 10 - 'Moon Sisters' by dappercapricorn
World:Omari
https://www.worldanvil.com/w/omari-dappercapricorn/a/moon-sisters-myth
Myths and Legends is my favorite category and so I have to finish with this. I tried to keep away from this section during my reading time as I was looking for articles in areas I was struggling with, but I could spend ages writing (and reading) endless myth stories. There are 53 entries in that category and I nearly read all of them! The one that touched my heart was a really sweet story of the creation of the moons by dappercapricorn. It felt as if I was reading a bedtime story from another world, when I finished I asked myself: what would the bedtime stories in my world be? A great prompt if there's one.
MY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
Still the same as last year's to be honest! Finish the first book of my Alven trilogy. I have made much progress with it in November and December, so I am hoping for great things next year ... as always.
