Moss heart

Story

The story of the Moss Heart is linked to the Mossheart family of Clan Deeryant. Kirilian Mossheart founded the dynasty that has   been the chieftain of the clan for more than a century.

Kirilian came from a merchant family in Glashelm, the town surrounding Glashelm Keep, the chieftain's seat by the shores of Loch Morgunt. Glashelm's prosperity is owed to the trade on Loch Morgunt - a vast majority of goods coming from the east and south of the continent transit on Loch Morgunt. For centuries, this was the safest and quickest way to carry goods across the huge Loch.

Kirilian's grandparents, Leak Ramsbottom and his wife Liliane Ramsbottom, sold their prosperous farm near Seaglass as a local seer had prophesied their rise to fame. The Ramsbottoms were told that their descendants would one day rule Alven and beyond.

The prophecy was told by Carnos himself, riding an ancient moss-covered white stag. Such stags had been a staple of Alven's myths and legends for centuries, and were usually called the Moss Heart.

As the Ramsbottoms settled down in Glashelm and started their new venture, they changed their name to Mossheart. With the farm's money, they invested wisely in a thriving caravanserai venture, and the rest is history. The Mosshearts' wagons are still a fixture of the busy, mercantile East Road. The magnificent stag ink-stamp on the tents covering the wagons makes them easily recognisable.

Leak and Liliane also made sure their children married into the Deeryant's clanbearers' families, and, as a result, the Mosshearts became influential among the clan's ruling elite. Then Kirilian Mossheart, in the power vacuum created by a less-than-brilliant chieftain, was made clan chieftain. From then on, there was no stopping the Mosshearts and their rise to power within Alven.

Myth

The myth surrounding Kirilian's birth is a family secret that is rarely shared. When Kirilian's father, Watt Mossheart held his son in his arms for the first time, he had a vision. The baby boy he was holding in his hands appeared to grow brilliant, ghostly antlers, and his swaddle appeared covered with soft, green moss. Watt nearly dropped his child to the ground at the time.

However, the vision was a great omen and a message from the god Carnos that Kirilian was to be a special child. It is to be noted that Kirilian was a gifted Rod Wielders in his days.

Present Day

Throughout his life, Kirilian always had the sense he had been chosen for the greater purpose of bringing his clan to supremacy. With this in mind, he created the Mossheart Brotherhood that still exists to these days.
