Dyasma

Also known as a Diasporic Aurora Stain; Dyasma is a sociological disease transmitted through the Cosmic Aurora via the Ichor in a Hellecian's blood stream.

A Dyasma is caused when an Ichor-inoculated being who uses the Cosmic Aurora to commit the following crimes:

• Propagating The Void over Creation (on a micro and/or macro scale)
• Breaking a vow sworn upon The Cosmic Aurora itself
• Betraying their native community with a crime that deserves the most severe punishment (imposed by council)
• Obstructing the will of the Aurora

The disease attacks the Ichor production inside a victim's body, growing life-sucking tumors all over their body. The Aurora's way of propagating creation untamed, at the expense of the offender.

  If left untreated, the glowing tumors eat away the Ichor in one's bloodstream until the victim has no more blood to consume.

 However, it takes decades for one's Dyasma to completely kill a host.

To cleanse oneself of a Dyasma, a victim must either be killed or go on a mission to repair the damage they caused inside the Cosmic Aurora. A bond-holder is assigned (through a cluster's civil council or through the Cosmic Aurora itself), given a totem to hold onto until they determine the debt is paid.

The more common of the transmission methods is via a civil council, reserved only for the worst committed crimes of a particular community. A punishment worse than death; which includes expulsion from their home and entrance to any Hellecian settlement (without permission from the civil council or their bond-holder).

The labor needed to cleanse the Dyasma can be as general or specific as the bond-holder wants.

It can be as general as serving as a Psygonaut aboard The Psygorellius for three cycles. Or specific as helping the ruler of a specific cluster with a series of problems until the debt is paid.

The bond-holder can also use the Cosmic Aurora to curse an individual (to an extent) for the duration of The Dyasma.

Once the debt has been paid, the bond-holder burns the totem into ash and gives the redeemed being the ashes to drink.

  After that, the Dyasma is cleared and the cleansed can return to their sector.

The best in-universe example of a Dyasma is The Labors of Iodium: an unusual Dyasma laid on the progenitor and his children known as the Ionites by Hera, Hestia, Demeter & Persephone following the Weeping Grove Massacre.

Cursing him and his Ionites to be a band of wandering colonists until they complete her Labors. A set of labors she never got to finish telling them before she was vaporized.
