The Jacksonville Incident
Written by Kindar
“Four days ago,” the voice said, a man, with a calm baritone, as the scene of a devastated neighborhood floated on the screen, “disaster struck Jacksonville Florida.” The date at the bottom left, read, July 22nd, 2022.
The view of the scene kept moving, the camera on a drone, flying up to show more of the devastation. Destroyed buildings, smoke rising in the distance, melted vehicles. “The exact nature of the attack is still unknown, but based on a video that was being streamed as it happened, it took place while two groups of supers were in the midst of a fight.”
The scene changed to that of a young man and woman, as seen from a phone being held.
“Hey all my fans, it's me, Brad, me and Janet are going to be enjoying—what was that?” The image blurred as the person holding it turned. “Oh my god, Janet, there's a super fight happening! Look everyone, I can't believe my luck, the first super fight I've ever witn—”
The screen flashed dark.
“Who the combatants were, has not been confirmed, but Rainbow Sword could be seen momentarily.” A blurry still of a man in multiple colors holding something that could be a sword appeared. “His presence would suggest that the Floridian Protectors were on the scene.”
The scene changed again, this time to a multitude of costumed people flying or working through the wreckage, pulling out bodies. “In the aftermath, heroes from all over the country have combed through the devastation in the hopes of finding survivors, but after four days, hope is running low.”
The screen turned black, and when an image returned, it was that of an attractive woman seated behind a newscaster's desk. The lower-left corner had the date August 1st, 2022.
“Two weeks ago, the city of Jacksonville Florida was destroyed in what was initially believed to have been an attack by some unknown group antagonistic to the United State. The devastation was total, with the epicenter located in the Robinson's Addition neighborhood, and the outer perimeter of the devastation reaching a few miles past the city limits proper.
”Government investigators have made public their findings today, which included rebuilding the timeline of events using videos that were collected off cloud storage from around the time of the explosion. While we will devote a full hour to explain how the results were achieved, this is what the investigators have concluded.
“The explosion was not the result of an attack by an outside force, but a consequence of the fight between the Floridian Protectors and their rival group the Black Mambas. Hawkins radiation was detected at the outside range of the destruction, and that is a recorded side effect of Black Hole's powers.
“Black Hole is the leader of the Black Mambas, and long time rival of the leader of the Protectors, Quantum Colossus. The fight seems to have pushed both teams to their limits, leading to one or both leaders to lose control and unleash the blast that destroyed Jacksonville Florida.”
