Exa'nus, the mysterious goddess of shadows, gazed into the hidden places of the world, where darkness reigned supreme. Feeling honored by the world's complexity, she reached into the shadows, gathering the darkest, most elusive fragments of the night. With an unseen hand, she shaped these shadows into a being of unholy terror, the Crypt-fiend. This shadow beast was a master of stealth and darkness, its presence felt but rarely seen. Exa'nus entrusted the Crypt-fiend with dominion over the largest, most foreboding shadowy places in the world, where fear and uncertainty lurked.
