Flash Step

Effect

Instantly teleports a caster to a new point in space, but not time. The Caster is not met with the same force of opening an actual portal, instead using their own body as the portal itself. This works regardless of orientation, momentum, and speed, point in fact, the Caster can change those attributes while casting the spell.

Side/Secondary Effects

There are very few cases of usefulness to this spell outside of combat, or traversal. As the Caster themselves is used as the portal, they can only carry with them watever they are holding. So a great many Casters attempting to use this spell for the first time, and in reality many times afterward, are met with a nauseating sense of disorientation and loss of balance. It takes a true natural, or a inhumanly skilled combatant to ignore the symptoms associated with this spell.

Either way, many Wayfares that begin learning their Greater Spells find themselves inconsolably ill using this spell. A botched casting of this spell can lead to a body being stuck inside another, or inside solid material. Though, the latter of the two is far less traumatic as the caster can instantly teleport themselves and the material around them to a different position to break free of it.

In the first cast, the caster material overtakes the material of the body being teleported to, so in many instances this leads to a rather macabre expulsion from both bodies. Often fatal for both casters involved, which has lead this spell to receive a rather unfortunate nickname. "Suicide Step."

Manifestation

She strode passed us, that saber clutched in her grip. Hoisted that thing in both hands and held it like a greatsword. Though, to her it might as well have been, longer than she was tall, I suppose comparably it was heavier than anything I would have been comfortable with. The roar of that monstrosity shook me from my trance, the earth rumbling beneath our feet as it's feet landed back down to shatter the stone below it.

Out of the corner of my eye, she stepped forward and vanished with an ear cracking snap. It was only as that thing's head fell from the sky with a shower of steaming blood following behind. Only then did I notice her standing on it's stump of a neck, sword once again held relaxed in one hand. Face splattered with the gore of that strike.

How did she do that? She didn't open a portal, she didn't use the wind or song to amplify her movement. I would have sensed it. Planting my ax into the ground, I shouted over the din of the beast's body falling to the earth with a chest rattling crash. "What did you just do?"

That oversized poncho she wore acting like a parachute, which really did hide the fact that she never actually took that priestess getup off, though she had the good sense to wear armor this time. She landed lightly on its back, "A new trick Odeza taught me." Illy responded without any effect to the beast that had been giving us so much trouble.
