Ek'on Adornments

Adornments are gifts often given to a loved one to represent their love for each other. To accept this gift and to wear it openly symbolizes their love and devotion. Within Ek’on culture it is uncommon for any to wear any form of jewelry other than armbands that symbolize one's oath to their lord or king. Adornments can come in all shapes and sizes. Women will often be gifted earrings, necklaces & bracelets. Men are often gifted with bracelets and earrings.

History

During the age of tribes, it is said that many of the first adornments were to symbolize marriages. Couples would present adornments to each other during a ceremony that was presided over by the chief of the tribe. Eventually rings would replace adornments as symbols of marriage as metal works became more common. As war spread out through the lands, adornments became a way for unmarried couples to show their love for one another as many were unable to wed before being sent off to fight.

Types of Adornments

The metal or material of adornments are based on one's profession or standing. For many commoners adornments are made of leather or are woven from different cloths. For those of higher standings, gold and silver adornments are gifted to show both love and status. Copper and bronze adornments are used by merchants and those of a lesser standing than lords & kings. For soldiers they will give adornments made of iron to represent both their love and rank among the army.

Gems & other materials

Aside from the material used to craft an adornment, other materials are often added based on preference. Gems and pearls are often added by those who can afford it. Historically feathers were commonly added by those of lower standing to make an adornment more unique. As trade would expand the material available, many wealthier couples would add feather and other materials from all corners of the world.
