Lerna
Lernas are monstruous reptiles, with a number of heads that seems to vary from tale to tale. If wide-eyed adventurers in taverns are to be believed, they also sport acid blood and potent regenerative capabilities. However, they seem to be vulnerable to fire.
Two variants have been identified, with mostly the same characteristics except for the color of their scales: The predominantly brown Dune Lernas inhabit coastal areas such as the Great River Shorelands, while Golden Lernas stalk the wilderness of the Albor Highlands.
As many other cold-blooded creatures, in the early morning they can be found resting on top of a rock or a sandy beach, attempting to warm their bodies with the first rays of the sun.
Basic Information
Growth Rate & Stages
Lernas start off as meekly, two-headed lizards. As they grow, hunt, fight and get hurt, new heads full of sharp teeth may sprout from big enough wounds, particularly if they happen to lose one of their original heads. A mature lerna could have any number of them, depending on how violent its life was.
In fact, notes found near some bones and torn clothes suggest lernas sometimes devour their own heads as a way of making themselves more dangerous.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
Managed with care, their acid blood can be distilled and turned into a tonic that confers mild regeneration to the consumer, for a limited time. Their scales are not particularly resistant, but the ones from Golden Lernas make for great jewelry.
