Doge-Prince Contessa Elisabetta Moceniga della Notte
A vision in black lace and crimson silks, Elisabetta wears her mortality like a beloved memory. She speaks in poetry, kills with courtesy, and smiles with venom. She appears in public only during masked balls, veiled by living shadows and surrounded by courtiers who speak only when permitted. Her cruelty is subtle and refined—no one is executed without an audience, no one betrayed without elegance.
Born to the powerful Mocenigo family, Elisabetta was embraced during the final days of her mortal reign as Dogaressa, the wife of a Doge who “mysteriously” vanished in the Black Plague. Sixty years later, she returned from death not as a widow, but as a sovereign in her own right—her embrace arranged by an elder Lasombra who saw in her the rare mix of ruthlessness, vision, and charm. Her rise to vampiric dominance was as much a political maneuver as it was an ascension bathed in blood and the rotten viscera of her opponents.
She ruled quietly in the background for the last nine decades, pulling strings and removing rivals in ways that never sullied her name. When the time was right—and the city at its weakest during a plague and schism—she claimed open Praxis and none were strong enough remained to challenge her.
Elisabetta is the shadow behind Venice’s golden mask. Her influence extends through:
- The Church: She supports both the Pope in Avignon and Rome, playing them against each other via mortal agents.
- Trade and Crime: She has her claws in the Guilds and the smuggling routes to the East; some whisper she feeds the plague to her enemies via tainted goods.
- Camarilla & Sabbat: Though Venice is technically neutral, Elisabetta’s Lasombra roots keep her under quiet Sabbat scrutiny—even as she maintains an iron grip that would put many Camarilla Princes to shame.
- Kindred Society: All vampire factions in Venice, from Cappadocians in the catacombs to the Toreador salons of Murano, pay her at least token homage. Those who don’t are never seen again.
