Aurora Borealis
In all living worlds within the Cosmos, the northern lights show nightly, particularity in, well, the north of the planet. As living beings are prone to do, each planet's most sentient species has come up with a myth surrounding their world, yet all hold the same narrative. Perhaps one of the most exemplary examples of the Cosmos-wide myth of the northern lights comes from the skies of Somnicoron, although this myth includes one of their deceased gods (Their old god of theatre), a figure that does not exist in myths from other planets within the Cosmos. Usually, the name of one of the kindest gods of the world replaces the Somnicoron-specific name of Falchion, and certain details concerning how the Aurora appears, gained her godhood, et cetera in order to fit the world's mythology better. Somnicoron's version is as follows:
Known for his kindness, the lord Falchion hath eternally blessed the poor and innocent. One of the children protected under his wing was a young girl, born from light dancing upon the surface of the sacred lake. The manifestation of light made somewhat human, the small, winged girl's appearance shifted to match the waves of light around her. With no elders to guide the strange girl, the unnamed light being wandered the streets of various towns for over a year, her immortal form never needing sustenance or sleep.
When she was taken from the streets, Falchion gave the winged girl the name 'Aurora' and taught her how to dance. And upon Falchion's eventual death uncountable years later, Aurora flew into the skies and danced through the heavens, leaving her tears behind. Like the light she was born from, Aurora's tears became a show for those residing on the mortal plane. Every night from then on, the woman would dance in the skies. Even when her tears faded, her wings would still light up the dark.
Historical Basis
The goddess Aurora was never raised by another god--she is a pure godborne, created by the stars themselves. Nonetheless, she still exists, and she still dances in the stars.
Spread
While similar myths exist all throughout the Cosmos, the locations of these myths are usually centered around the northern poles of the worlds. These myths are not secret, but planets such as The Dual Cobras and Somnicoron place more importance on this myth than planets such as Terra.
Variations & Mutation
It's generally more common for Aurora to be said to come from light and air, but Somnicoron has more of a cultural emphasis of water, leading to them speaking of water in this myth instead of air.
Cultural Reception
Worlds with identities based more around creativity such as Somnicoron tend to place this myth on a much higher tier than more sterile worlds, such as Terra (more specifically, Aria).
In Art
Many paintings attempt to depict Aurora in all her glory, although all have been far from the truth. Many songs and dances attempt to capture the shifting of the northern lights, but none are so explicit as to perfectly copy them.
