The Grief and Rage of Furies

It's believed that the first Furie was born in the aftermath of their flock being massacred. Only one egg and nest-mother survived a brutal attack from werewolves, who were known thousands of years ago to hunt harpies for their meat and feathers.

The surviving nest-mother poured all her grief and rage into the egg and what hatched from it was a harpy the likes of which had never been seen before. It had the wings of a falcon and the rage of a phoenix, capable of passing it onto others. With that rage, the aptly-named Furie rallied a flock of harpies who'd also suffered losses to werewolves and anything else that would hunt a harpy for sport. With the founding of this flock, the hunted became the hunters. The Furie used her mother's guidance to locate the pack that had left them orphaned and laid waste to them. She lacked the fear of wolves that her kin were known for and used that to her advantage.

Some claim that the Furie went too far in her revenge, as she picked up the werewolves and clawed at them as she carried them to great heights only to drop them, letting them fall to a slow and painful death.

Though victorious, the Furie's acts of brutality and ability to manipulate the emotions of those around her, and the flock quickly disbanded as her kind few to fear her. She was left alone, drifting aimlessly. Stories spread of a goddess of revenge being born into the world as she meted out her own vicious justice against anyone who wronged her or those she deemed innocent.

She lives on in the Furies who were born after her, supposed reincarnations of her bloodthirst and rage.
