Starships under the Frigate classification are those with the second smallest hull sizes. They are faster and more versatile than the larger Cruiser-Class, with a heavier weapon capabilities than the smaller Corvette-Class. There are two sub-classes that fall under the definition of a Frigate-class ship: Scout Frigates and Destroyers. Scout Frigates: Also known as Patrol Frigates or just Frigates, Scout Frigates sacrifice armour and heavy weaponry for more sophisticated communication and scanning equipment and extended deep-space operation times. Scout Frigates tend to have one light tonnage anti-ship armament with auxiliary weapon systems for combating smaller vessels. Destroyers: Also known as Heavy Frigates or "Man-o-War"s, Destroyers are the smallest of those ships classified as "Dedicated Warships", being outfitted primarily for full or partial fleet engagements over secondary functions. They are fully capable of engaging and defeating unsupported Cruiser-class warships on their own and are even capable of destroying Capital-class warships if they make use of wolf-pack tactics. This powerful loadout prevents the Destroyer from being able to operate in isolation, being dependant on supply ships or depots to support the crew as the majority of the space in the vessel is dedicated to araments, armour, and maneuverability systems
