Cyberpsychosis

Cyberpsychosis is a serious neurological disorder, found in those beings with extensive, and poorly installed cybernetic implants.

Transmission & Vectors

Cyberpsychosis is not transferable between individuals making casual or sustained physical contact. It is speculated that installing recycled neural implants from an afflicted individual or linking cybernetic implants directly with said individual can induce cyberpsychosis but this is unproven as of the writing of this article.

Causes

Cyberpsychosis is caused by the neural trauma induced from the botched installation of, or poor quality of cybernetic implants installed within a person's body. The condition occurs when a feedback loop is formed between the cybernetic and the subject's nervous system, which dangerously unbalances the subject's neuralogical pathways.

Symptoms

Initial Symptoms include headaches, paranoia, easy irritability and nausea. Symptoms increase in severity over time to include psychosis, megalomania, god complex, coma, delirium, radical reality dissociation disorder, and seizures. Death can be another symptom but most sufferers expire from external factors caused by the other symptoms first.

Treatment

The only 100% effective means to treat cyberpsychosis is to immediately disengage the implanted cybernetic before the symptoms progress too far. After a certain point the subject is too far gone and cannot be disengaged from the implant without killing them. Various antipsychotic drugs can be used to slow the progression of cyberpsychosis but are incapable of curing it.

Prognosis

The initial symptoms of cyberpsychosis are easy to mistake for the stress and "teething" issues associated with a new cybernetic implant, especially cranial implants. As such, nearly all legitimate cybernetic surgeons have follow-up appointments after installing implants. Advanced symptoms begin 6-12 months after installation or 2-3 years if antipsychotics are being taken.

Affected Groups

Anyone with a cybernetic could be subjected to cyberpsychosis

Cultural Reception

Cyberpsychosis is greatly feared inside the The Technocratic Union as it can cause a mass panic due to the extensive cybernetic modifications permitted there. The existence of cyberpsychosis has further prejudiced The Hegemony against the use and implementation of cybernetics and reinforces their conflict with the other polity.
