Rhabakhast is one of the many ancient dwarven fortresses and its associated city in the north of the continent.
Glorious Past
In the olden days, before The Myconic Plague wiped out the dwarves across Dephrania, Rhabakhast was a bustling town, whose main purpose was to support the mine in whose shadow it sits. Dwarves lived and traded here, buying the raw ore they dragged out of the depths of the mountains. Some of it was processed right here, but the majority made its way onto the Clansroads, which spanned the continent in those days.
Main imports and exports
Rhabakhasts main exports was ore (see above), with the few smithies in the town only producing what was needed by Rhabakhast itself. On the opposite side, a functional mine needs workers and those workers need to be fed and housed. Rocks from nearby quarries supplied the main needs of the latter but for the former, the fields and farms in the hills surrounding the town needed to work year round just to meet the growing demand. Before the city could outgrow its lands though, the plague happened and the continental trade network collapsed.
Ruined Present
In contrast to the heyday of the settlement, Rhabakhast is now a ruin like any other dwarven remainder on the continent. The aquaeduct which once supplied water from the mountains and ran through the town has collapsed, the mine is cold and long forgotten. The only beings living here now are burrowing animals like mice and rabbits, and the occasional troupe of outlaws and bandits evading the law.
Secret Purpose
One contributor to Rhabakhasts success during the time of the dwarves was its connection to the dwarves overseas. Shortly before the dwarven kingdoms collapsed from the plague, they were working on ways to transport Leik crystals over long distances, which would have revolutionized the dwarven runework that was blossoming on Dephrania. However, when the plague ravaged the the world, intercontinental trade routes and the ships that upheld them were among the first to break down. The secret laboratory under Rhabakhast is still hidden, but now remains as purposeless as the town without the mine.
Fuínmarr enclave
While the town is abandoned, the same cannot be said about the mine sitting in the cliffs above. An enclave of Fuínmarr devoted to Markazz has set up camp there. They try to avoid attention but if they think they can get away with it will try to wipe out people trying to settle Rhabakhast so long as they can ensure no-one lives to tell the tale.
