Inquisitor
"Be wary, the triumphant pride and self-righteous fury of an Inquisitor is not to be taken lightly"
Qualifications
Inquisitors are either handpicked by the Hierophant themself, or by another Inquisitor seeking an apprentice of sorts, from the ranks of the Templars to serve as their secret "left hand" while the Templars as whole serve as its "right hand."
Requirements
The completion of the decade required in the training to become a Templar, it is not unheard of those as low of ranking as Deacon or Nun being even named Inquisitor for either outstanding service or their supposed potential.
Appointment
A special, and typically secret, ceremony is held when naming an Inquisitor. Typically hosted by a senior and more experienced Inquisitor, an Archbishop whose Templar is being promoted, and sometimes the Hierophant themself.
Duties
The duties of an Inquisitor is not too different than that of Templar save they officially answer only to the Hierophant themself, and typically report to their fellow Inquisitors and whatever Archbishop is closest to them but they have no control over them. Their duty typically though is to seek out and purge any sort of corruption within the The Holy Order of the Light and to stamp out any form of heresy with even greater prejudice than that of the average Templar.
Responsibilities
Inquisitors do not have any sort of homebase or place to report to save wherever the Hierophant is at that time. They wander from city to city, temple to temple, and always end up wherever they are least expected. Though usually wherever they end up somebody ends up being executed or burned alive for one reason or another, even Templars fear the presence of an Inquisitor in their ranks.
Benefits
Inquisitors are not only the enforcers of the law, they are technically above it as the only one legally and morally capable of judging their actions is the Hierophant themself.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Many carry similar equipment as average Templars, save they preferred Light or Medium armor and a used lighter weaponry. Their most distinct feature was the their badge of office upon their tunics and tricorn hats.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Never has their been a case of an Inquisitor being removed from their position, they are believed to be infallible.
History
The first Inquisitors were created shortly after the Great Rebellion as a system to "watch over those who watch."
Cultural Significance
While the Templars invoke a sense of intimidation, respect, and some fear. The presence and existence of Inquisitors strikes utter terror to both Templars and commonfolk alike throughout the Freelands.
