Crater Mound

One of Midvale's most famous sites is Crater Mound, a circular, raised earthen mound created by an ancient meteor impact, forming a bowl-like valley surrounded by a hill that rises up above the surrounding plains. Crater Mound is state parkland and open to visitors, and the occasional site of scientific exploration into the creation of the crater, or of ancient human habitation of the area. Archaeologists believe primitive tribes saw Crater Mound as a sacred site and may have performed religious rituals there, although there are no signs of long-term settlement anywhere in or near the mound.
