The Valhyrr

In the northern lands of Kerine, the frigid tundra is ruled by a rotating monarchy consisting of three different clans which, due to their bloodlines, hold an ancient birthright by which they can claim ownership over the region of Relyah. One such clan is that of the Valhyrr, masters of the rune and beasts and the current rulers of the Relyah from the capitol region of Bas'Aral. The Valhyrr have ruled over the north for the past 5 years due to their championing over the regional tests of strength that determine what clan is fit to rule.

Claws That Carve and Rend

The Valhyrr are a clan made up of multiple tribes within Relyah that allied themselves together under the shared value in the art of rune sculpting, animal husbandry, as well as values such as spirituality, intensity, and resilience. While those born to the clan are free to choose their desired occupation over the course of their life, those of higher standing within a family either choose to work in rune sculpting or beast mastery. The style of runes and their function varies from person to person, as does the beast families choose to specialize in training, rearing, and employing. Additionally, it is not uncommon for there to be obelisks erected across Relyah covered in runes carved by Valhyrr craftsmen that are used for signalling among groups, marking historic events, or generating ambient magic in the area for ease of survival.

The clan is not well-known for their warriors, though those of merit certainly exist. Their ability to utilize runes to harness and bind arcane and nature magic to them grants the clan a slew of masters in regards to magic, a unique strength among the different clans. As rulers, the Valhyrr are strict yet fair, and frequently demonstrate their strength over the other clans to reinforce their supremacy due to their continued rule for the past 5 years.

Bring The Lands To Heel

Reylah was filled with tribes of differing cultures that often came to violent conflict over regions, resources, and general disagreements. The fighting continued since Reylah's settling up until 35 AAL when the Valhyrr built a city in the snow made of bone and frost, then later of wood and stone called Bas'Aral.

The other tribes wanted the city, and were prepared to unite against the Valhyrr to lay siege to the city and claim it. While the warmongering tribes were preparing for a siege, the Valhyrr approached the leaders with a proposition. While they could fight over the city, losing many lives and maybe even losing, perhaps a better way of succession might be developed. A competition of blood and glory was suggested, with the people that provide the best champions and representatives given ownership of the city without a fight. The leadership would change, but the population would not as all citizens of each tribe were allowed to settle within the city's walls. Thus formed the Valherrim Games, a bloody match between different cultures for the ownership of the capitol of the region, Bas'Aral.

The crest of the Valhyyr is a bestial claw to denote the strength and ferocity of the northern tundra.
