Umbra Magic System
Energy and Channeling Runan
Runan, also known as "Mana" or "Chi", is the tangible energy inside every being, and the source of all magic within the Umbra Sky, with its focuspoint being in the center of their body. By drawing it out, an individual is able to manipulate it and use it outside their body to either spellcast or perform a technique. Runan can be used for many different things but there are physical limits to the strength of one's body, that limit its user, one has to increase their body's Runan flow and control to overcome this barrier to gain the ability cast higher rank spells or use power techniques. Normally, the more your Runan is increased or channeled, the harder it is to control, especially since Bundled Runan can be lost when the user sustains injuries. You also have to maintain proper balance between the body, spirit and soul to fully utilize it, and the more properly balanced you are, the more Runan can flow through you and be used to cast spells or use techniques. The Inner Balance also prevents fast Runan Drain or falling unconscious. A user with enough control over their Runan flow eventually learns how to sense it, being able to sense the location, amount, and what aspect of magic somone might use with their Runan. The stronger and closer the enemy, the more powerful the sensation. Also, if the excitation of Runan is very powerful, it can be sensed from afar by people who aren't trained to sense it. With enough training, the user can also hide their Runan flow so others cannot sense it.Runan Conditions
Runan Loss Is a Condition you can gain if your Injured from prior combat or lingering injuries left behind that are unable to heal, it makes it so your unable to use Power Techniques or use Major Spells as your body is unable to Balanace and gather enough Runan to cast or use either.(Cannot be healed Character has to Rest 10/15 min for it to go away) Runan Drain Is a Condition you can gain if you fail casting spells repeatidly the rule of thumb is that this sets in whenever you fail 3/5 times in a row, it can also be given by a dm if casting a spell that is to powerfull fails once.
(Can be Healed by a Mender spending 5min healing you or Consuming a Potion of Restoration) Runan Overflow Is a condition you can gain if you repeatedly succeed at casting spells or using techniques that can be given to you by a DM. You cannot give it yourself; you have to treat it like a Hero Point or Inspiration point in Pathfinder/D&D, where you get to reroll a single roll for casting a spell or using a technique.
The Aspects of Magic
The Various aspects of magic each represent a distinct form of Runan that, not only, Defines a character and the way they fight or go about solving conflicts but also grants its users diffrent wells of powers to tap into, as each aspect manifests as a unquie mutation of their own Runan within their Bodies, Spirit and soul A Player character can only channel and use a single innate aspect of magic due to the manifisation of their Aspect being a literal representation of their Personality Goals, Values and expierences. That is also the reason why it is possiable that trought either an external force or lifeexpierences a players innate aspect of magic changes or evolves, but if it does they loose access to their old aspects unique magic as they are now a diffrent changed person. However, only being able to controll a single aspect doesn't hinder a character that uses, for example, Spectral magic from casting a spell like "Burning hands" which normaly would be a spell of the primal aspect, one can still cast it as a variant which is fuled by Spectral magic. Its only important that it must be visualized distinctivly, the Spectral magic has to look more Ghostly or completly diffrent in color like a purple flame instead of a regular Red or Yellow Flame. mechanicly the Aspects of magic are important for magic clashes when spellcasters, menders and diviners have to contest rolls against other types of magic, as each magic aspect has a counterpart their weak to and one their stronger against, one can learn about these counterparts just by looking at a Major Spell circle for example in the case of the Arcana Aspect, Arcana is weak to and has a disadvantage against the Mystic Aspect but has and advantage and is strong against Primal magic. Primal being Weak to Arcana but strong against Chronol magic Ascpet abilites. etc.Primal
