Extending Retreat
The last of my descendant just died. After centuries of mingling with my own genome, they became hollowed shells of their ancestors, each a dysfunctional copy of their parent. I let this one expire without giving it an offspring. Silence at last. No peace, only the crippling isolation of the Shansun Deep. After so long spent scouring this area, I know most of its perils, and the key to its mysteries. At first I felt this thrill again, of putting my life on the line and emerging victorious despite all odds. I left everything behind, everyone too. I'm not stranded, but not coming back either. Not yet. Or ever.
