Causes
The gnomes long ago became fascinated with the world around them and how to improve it. Their exuberance and zeal at which they engage in this can ensnare the unwary.
Symptoms
At first it is rapt attention on the gnome. Soon it leads to questions. This can be expedited if the gnome has requested assistance in an experiment . Those who live through this initial latency period soon start researching, whether on their own or in conjunction with gnomes, and this, invariably, leads to experimentations.
Treatment
Isolation and denial of materials that could allow them to continue the work of the gnome who afflicted them.
Prevention
Limiting a gnome from only speaking a sentence or two at a time is a good start.
History
Ever since the gnomes began their works in the foothills of Coilefe there have been those of the other races who get captivated by the varied and strange things concocted by those small, mad geniuses . It does not matter the discipline or field of study, if a gnome gets going they have a chance to either so enthrall or strike dumb someone from another species. Over the centuries this has led to most just leaving the gnomes alone. This suited the gnomes since outsiders were a liability in terms of interference and the occasional victim of something that went boom that wasn't supposed to go boom.
