Erdas Proker
History
Today, Erdas Proker is famous for being the hometown of renowned civil servant and politician Qamron Osvar. However, the town has a long and interesting history stretching back long before the birth of Ferraria.
The location of what would one day be Erdas Proker used to be a densely forested area on the banks of a tributary to the Hyrame River. There is evidence, in the form of stone maps from Vzelia and a ruined cairn found on the banks of the river, that the site was originally used for some magic ritual before humans arrived on the continent.
The first men didn't use the site, but the iconic double loop the river makes was noted in a surviving document from the period.
After the Qrame's landed from across the ocean, two forts were built, one of each headland of the river. One was called Irdesh, the other Pembreck. The site was most pleasing to their gods and was used for various forms of sacrifice to them.
After the collapse of the Qrame dynasty, communication between various settlements broke down almost completely. The tribes of Irdesh and Pembreck soon rose up as a regional power, controlling much of the land up and downstream of their site respectively.
Eventually, after centuries of minor feuding, the family of Pembreck overthrew those in Irdesh, sending them into exile.
The Irdesh-Pembrecks fought against the Branukrars of Swatholm, the Frudamaras of Fort Frudamara, and the various outlaw families (including the original Irdeshi) for a few decades over the boundaries of their land.
At some point, a ministry from the Rothans came to the region and set up an outpost there. Originally, it was to study the flow of rivers, but eventually it became a permanent station.
The town was once sacked by the Hirth Knights and the Pembrecks outlawed. The Knights built a large castle on the east bank next to the Rothan School.
During the time of the Yordtrad kingdom, the town sent soldiers to fight them off, but their boundaries were never threatened.
Representatives from the town were present for the signing of the Treaty of Waidako.
The town was partially sacked during the conquests of Ferran the Miner, with one tower of the castle collapsing.
King Ferran himself was said to have stayed in the town during the conquests, rather than in his camps as was common.
The town became the home of a large sect of the Cult of Kings, and the seat of the local bishop.
The town experienced a large period of growth, as it became a hub of river barge and sea cog construction. The shipyards were protected by the geography, and the wood provided the raw materials for ships.
Influx of overseas culture was limited, making the town still somewhat insular.
The exiled daughter of a Lord of the Gate moved here with her husband and child. Eventually their line would merge into the Osvar family, who would then produce two highly notable figures, as well as many of local notoriety.
A riot in the city in the year 419 led to Qamron Osvar, now a student with the Rothans, breifly becoming chief of the city after the school became the temporary majoral building. Osvar commanded the city guard from his dormitory and managed to confine the riots to the north side of the river, where they eventually fizzled out and died.
During the Dragon War, the city was partially razed by its own son, Qamron Osvar, to try to smoke out rebel troops. He suceeding in driving them into the river where many of them drowned or were cut down by loyalists on the opposite bank.
Osvar was then granted the town as his seat during the war, and it was then added to his demense when he became Lord of the Owl.
After Osvar's death, the lands were split up, with Erdas Proker going back to the control of the Hirths.
Recently, the town has seen a second boom in industry, becoming a centre of the new timber industry as well as the scientific revolution. It is currently ruled by the Woodgyt family.
