Harker
A frozen subterranean wasteland filled with fog, icicles and icy, brittle terrain, often found within or underneath glaciers or in cave systems directly beneath frozen regions. It's common to find harkers within rimaye, moulins and other glacial features. Harkers tend to grind up, wash out and rust away any large ruins or metallic objects, but 'lucky' creatures may be entombed in 'firn', snow that turns to ice through pressure instead of melting. Most life within the harkers of Geron live within waterfalls, rivers and other features that run through the Harker.
Ecosystem
The fragile ecosystem of the Harker relies on the presence of liquid water, usually moving through the Harker or in surface pools in the Harker's warmest areas. This water is usually rich in minerals and finely ground ancient matter which in which algaes, annelids, amphibians and fish are known to survive. This ecosystem is further aided by visits from opportunistic megafauna looking for fresh water or predating other fauna seeking fresh water, with some species of Ghostbears overwintering in Harkers near Geron's surface. Deeper harkers are often caused by sources of decaying arcana or by nearby arcane weather. The species within these harkers can contain include long-lost creatures which may have more resilient constitutions.
Seasons
Harkers near the surface have dry periods in the winter. Creatures that live within the Harker often freeze along with the water they call home, with annelid populations hatching during the spring and summer melts. Creatures like the Night Star, Netmaker's Crab and the Harker Cod are all capable of surviving long freezes in a form of stasis, and it's not unusual for hungry scavengers of many species to attempt to chip these foodstuffs out of the ice. Deep, ancient harkers created by long-decaying magic may remain frozen for countless millenia, thawed by magma upwells and other geothermal activity. Strange creatures can sometimes be found in such harkers, locked away in the ice. LOCALIZED PHENOMENA FLORA & FAUNA RESOURCES
