The clans of the Gornwald

"Few people are as stubborn, as proud and as tough as the dwarvish kin. What they lack in vertical height they more than make up for in cunning, strength and skill. The dwarven cultures differ quite drastically as they are very geographically distanced and have very little in the ways of cultural exchange. Despite this there are some fundamental parts of dwarven culture that resonates through all the different clans and dwellings, leading some to believe that all dwarven tribes stem from one ancient and vast dwarven empire. An empire now long forgotten."

There's a common misconception that all dwarves live deep in the high mountains or in enormous underground burrows and forts. This could not be further from the truth. In the Southern part of the great western forests, between the inhospitable mountain range of the Grey peaks, and the lush forest of Redwood, lies the Gornwald. A densely forested area home to the forest living dwarves known as the sons and daughters of Gorn. In the common tongue they are often referred to as the Gornwood dwarves or Tree dwarves. And for good reason. Leaving a life of stone and metalwork behind the children of Gorn have instead mastered every aspect of woodworking. Carving marvelous sculptures and ornaments, crafting masterfully made bows, crossbows and polearms, constructing impressive wagons, buildings and if you pay them well enough, even siege engines. Royal courts often call upon one or two "tree dwarves" when their monark needs a new throne or wagon made. The children of Gorn are also believed to have mastered the art of alchemically altering wood. Making wood clubs as hard as metal, and crafting wooden suits of armour lighter and stronger than steel.   Gornwood dwarves are short and robust. They have thick beards that grow even thicker with age for the men, while the women's beard growth slowly recedes as they age. Young dwarven maidens sometimes shave to make themselves look older, while the older women braid their hair into their diminishing beards to make themselves look younger.
