Dhorim; The Summoner, First Son of Kane, The Dark King of the Demari. Ruler, sorcerer, and master of fiends, the story of Dhorim is a constant reminder that power must be seized from the weak and earned by the worthy. The father of dark magic, demonology, and the Dark King of the Demari people, Dhorim is a feared as much as he is loved. Sacrificing the privilege of his golden birth, the Summoner is worshipped and admired for the kingdom he offered the chosen children of Kane. By his demand of loyalty and order, the Demari have flourished in the land of the shattered sun. Others, persuaded by his power and knowledge, follow the First Son of Kane with a quiet fear and respect.Description
The stark features of a long since dead race still grace the face of the Summoner. A reflection of the magic that pulses through his veins, the shimmering hue of violet and silver of his gaze is mesmerizing. Ivory tresses of a beard, with gems and braids signify his status in life and death. His stature accentuated by the ebony armor that reflects the faces of devils and demons he has pressed into service. Depictions of Dhorim differ depending on the age of the statue or painting. Some show the mortal features and beauty of the former golden dwarf with the reflection of change only slight in color and description. Others choose to embrace the upturned horns and demonic features that were gifted by Kane himself. No matter which leaning, there is no mistaking the intimidating presence the Dark King's visage offers to those who look upon it.Origin Story
Side by side with his brother in arms Ohar, Dhorim was a Commander of the Golden dwarves. Hundreds of years of service, offering the freedom and protection to the Iliri through the sacrifice of his kin would begin to scratch at the Dark King's resolve. A quiet bitterness would form with each loss, wondering why the privileged elves did nothing to protect their home or allies. Seeking answers for himself, Dhorim would begin to teach himself both magic and history in secret. As the layers of lies would dissolve, so too would his confidence in the truth that had been painted across the years to ensure the loyalty of his people. Furious, Dhorim would descend into the lands of the demons to seek out the Destroyer himself. Intrigued at the dwarfs approach, Kane would welcome him to sit and speak. Hours would pass as an understanding would be found between them. Offering a treaty in exchange for the unity of the lands, the Father of Darkness was moved by Dhorim's conviction. With treaty in hand, the First Son of Kane would return home to offer the freedom and peace to his kin. As he spoke from the pulpit of his command, he was struck down by the anger of Aithar the Arcanist. Fury and betrayal would fuel Dhorim's words as he called to his loyal kin to rise up. That even in the face of cruelty, their new father would answer them. Struck down by his very brother; Ohar. Dhorim would cry out to the Destroyer to restore him and grant him strength. Descending upon the dying body of his First Son, Kane would grant him ascent to stand again. Emboldened by this miracle, near three fourths of his kin would join Dhorim in the uprising. Thus began the War of the Brethren.Relationships
The rightful king of the Demari, Dhorim has ruled over the lands of the Demari for many centuries. Though he has offered mortal sons that wear his crown, he has always returned every thousand years to reign for a hundred. This direct connection with his followers has led to a zealot like acceptance of his divinity and place within their life. Known to be both giving and ruthless, the Summoner is a constant teacher and commander over his believers. Though there is an understanding with most of the other divine, a rivalry still sits in the heart of Dhorim against Ohar and those of the pantheon of light. He is closest with Kane and though there is a slight tension between them, Dhorim is still very loyal and works with The Bride consistently. Kreiig is the only ally of his pantheon that he has had on and off quarrel with.Religion
Dogma
"It is the duty of the faithful to strike down the enemies of The Dark King.""By means of strength and thought, pursue power."
"Offer loyalty by blood and bond, but never be shackled to weakness."
Clergy
The constant interaction with Dhorim and the establishment of the importance of order has caused the clergy to be more zealous in their devotion. Many warlocks, sorcerers, warlords, politicians, and other people in positions of power will find themselves called to bear the marking of Dhorim and spread his word. The majority of the clergy are priests but priestesses are welcome into the Order of the Dark King, though their role tends to reflect that of the Six Sisters of Submission. Many if not all of the clergy are taught to understand demons, devils, and other creatures that would cause most to cower in fear. This allows them to form bonds, summon beings from the fabric of nightmares, and create powerful slaves for themselves to utilize. Because of the creeds and beliefs of the followers of the Dark King, many are forced to hide their devotion outside of Demari or Aljani regions, but this does not quiet the devotion of the clergy in any form.Temples
At the center of Demari culture are the temples erected to both Kane and Dhorim. Though Kane's temples are prominent in their religious structure, those to the Dark King are more political or practical in construction and use. Doubling as an academy to the dark arts, the temples are vast with both religious iconography and places for students, slaves, and clergy to reside. A refuge to all Demari, the temple is a symbol of hope to its people and a nefarious den to others. While it is not common for guests or refugees to disappear, if a guest is not of Demari birth, there is a possibility of disappearing into the slave trade or being turned in for an existing bounty.Worship
Due to the complexities of the magic that the Summoner is associated with, worship is soaked in more strict ritualistic methods. From meticulous prayers to ritual spells to invoke the power of Dhorim himself, the Dark King offers gifts to any true believer if they are willing to pay the hefty price of devotion. When it comes to honoring Dhorim in everyday life, the principles of power are the easiest way. Making an effort to overcome your enemies, grow your power, and serve your community to become more in line with the morals of the Dark King are all acceptable ways to live as his worshipper.Symbol
