Maritesa Dead Zone

It isn't just that nothing dies properly in there, nothing lives properly either. It is a mockery of life, going through the motions, pretending to exist without realising it is long dead.

Not far off the northwestern coast of Sichelan is a place known as the Maritesa Dead Zone. A collection of islands and sea that do not know death, as the Ethereal Veil does not reach it at all.   It is the site of a failed murder of the first lich Maritesa, and became a reminder for anyone else to dare disturb their godhood ever again. A safe haven for those that fear death itself.

Land of the Dead

Brief history

The dead zone came into being when a small group of prometheists attempted to put an end to the cult of Maritesa by going straight to the root, and attempt to bring them into the mortal plane through a ritual. Under forced hand, they took a few of the lich god's devotees and demanded them to summon an avatar of the undead deity, hoping to trap it in mortal flesh to slay forevermore.   However, the plan backfired as the forced effort and attempted taboo to make the immortal god mortal brought only its frustration. The concentrated presence of Maritesa began to tear at the very veil, only to have it collapse entirely when they retaliated. As a result, a blind spot formed within the Ethereal Veil, birthing the Maritesa dead zone in the progress.

Deathless Lands

The region is one where life does not function properly, as a lack of an Ethereal Veil makes the area hazardous. The most obvious thing being the lack of death, as no amount of bodily harm seems capable of seperating body and soul from one another. Nothing can die, making anything on it functionally immortal.   The downside is that with no ethereal veil, anything living also starts to wear down as the soul and mind wear burns itself out. Longterm exposure can cause severe mental and bodily problems such as madness or organ failure, which many may not even realise until they exit the dead zone.   An added side effect that it is a blind spot in the ethereal veil, making many gods not even able to reach in there. Therefor, many divine spells and abilities simply do not work at all.
