Extraplanar Digestive Issues

Planar Poisoning

A common problem with travellers between realms is people's ability to digest and handle outside food. Same as with on the material plane, people born in certain regions may not have the biological resistance to handle it, making it prone to have digestive problems eating said food.

Digestive Issues

Causes

Different planes of existence are home to different ecosystems, down to the bacteria and microscopic life living amongst us. As a result, your body may not have the immune system or gut flora to even handle any of it.   While it may be obvious with certain food being only digestible by native populations evolved for it, even subtle ones can effect your digestive track. Other times it even may be allergies or side effects of your body not knowing what it ingests, causing it to fight back in a form of self-defence.

Symptoms

Most common issues found with eating outsider food are digestive issues, stomach cramps and other related problems. This leads to cases of diarrhoea or vomiting, with food poisoning being also a common side effect.   However, certain food can have unique effects on the digestive track as outside bacteria may overwhelm the gut flora. This can cause a shift in the digestive track, causing unwanted side-effects such as:
  • Crystallised excrement
  • Brittle hair
  • Changes in body temperature
  • Excessive production of bodily fluids
  • Parts like bone or teeth forming out of non-calcium material
  • Explosive flatulence
  • Acidic vomit
  • Bloated feeling
  • Prevention

The best way to avoid digestive issues is to eat and drink in moderation, or not eat at all. One can also build up a natural endurance against it by eating small doses, allowing one's body to develop resistance against it. Having some heritage tied to a plane helps one as well.   Using rations from their own world to mix with spices and other ingredients is a common way to get used to outsider food, though also smaller snacks are a common way

An interplaner restaurant hates to see a baddie with IBS coming! Seriously though, hilariously real, and I love the short intro quote too XD

That's all I need, running between dimensions looking for a bathroom before I make a mess across the planes.
