House Graves
The Austere House of Graves is one of the many self-styled Noble Houses of the Merchant dominated land of Sembia. House Graves' power was slowly waning from its already humble origins but a peculiar windfall has boosted the House of Graves to prominence amongst the other Noble Houses in Sembian society. The large family is led by its formidable patriarch Duke Andreas Graves, a skilled diplomat and investor who has taken the family fortune and grown it through shrewd dealings in livestock as well as investing in trade both in and outside of Sembia. While the fortunes of House Graves seem bright, the future is uncertain due to the uncertain status of Duke Graves’ eldest son, Lord Damien Graves. A mysterious ailment has kept the young Lord Graves isolated from Courtly Life from a young age and his ability to inherit his father’s title has long been in question. This weakness could lead to diplomatic troubled for House Graves in the future.
Structure
Duke Andreas Graves is the family patriarch of House Graves. Duke Graves has two younger brothers and two sisters who serve as Scions and Agents of House Graves in the day to day business of operating House Graves' mercantile interests. Younger members of the family are expected to attend some form of education, either through academic or clerical studies with the local Church of Waukeen.
Public Agenda
The ambition of the Graves Noble House is to acquire and keep social influence and to grow their family wealth. Though the most powerful and influential families in Sembia style themselves as some form of nobility, House Graves is the only family that has been able to attain any form of legitimate Noble Title, having suddenly and unexpectedly produced ancient documents that show a line of succession from hundreds of years past laying claim to a Noble House and land in the earliest histories of Sembia. Whether House Graves is capable of turning this ancient dejure claim into something to control more than their dDuchy remains to be seen.
