Code of Conduct

This expanded section on table rules and etiquette sets clear expectations for player behavior and session logistics. It emphasizes the importance of preparation, communication, and respect for each other's time and efforts. We want to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience for everyone involved, and also provide fertile grounds for personal, social and emotional well being.

A. Personal

Let's have fun! We're here to imagine, dream, fantasize. We want to laugh, cry, wonder, ponder and scheme. We play with immersion, intent, and emotion, leaving egos at the door. A perfect table both gives, takes, and receives, and allows individuals to shine by making others better. Our group is an open, geniune and honest space where we go places no one has gone before, and sometimes explore parts of ourselves we aren't too familiar with. It's a rare and vulnerable thing that we're doing, and you make it possible - remember that!

B. Degrees of separation

Remember to always distinguish between in-character and out-of-character interactions! Once we enter the realm of roleplay, some might find it difficult crossing or endangering a fellow player's character. Others find it challenging to oppose views, morals, or choices. This is a part of the game! Believe in your character, and believe that others will too!

C. Collaboration

Engage with the world and your fellow players. Be attentive when others are speaking or taking their turns. Respectful listening and engagement enhance the experience for everyone. Sometimes, the smallest of actions have the biggest impact, but big actions are just as important! Players are encouraged to react, involve, comment, and noticibly respond to choices and consequences, as it is your own reactions that makes a lot of the fun for the other players. Let them see and hear how their roleplaying decision makes you feel! This is not a disturbance - it is part of the game. Loosen your tongue, and let them hear your warcry as that nat20 rolls!

D. Player development

Don’t ever hesitate to ask questions during the game. However basic or advanced, we can't remember everything all the time. Our sessions are learning experiences, and everyone, including the GM, is continually evolving. Players are encouraged to help each other out, especially in understanding rules, character abilities, and game mechanics. If you are struggeling with a particular mechanic or aspect, don't let it rest - take steps to improve; write down notes and instructions. GM is always there to help. Also, if you feel that something is wrong with how we play, please bring it up! Nobody wants anyone to sit in a chair they're not comfortable in. Sometimes roleplaying and D&D can feel all-consuming, and perspective on what matters and what one should endure "in favor of the game/group/mood/vibe" can easily be lost. The GM’s door is always open for talking, support, feedback, suggestions, help, and constructive criticism.

E. Fuel up and get comfy

Players are encouraged to bring their favorite snacks, foods and/or drinks to keep their gas tanks full and energy levels high. For online sessions, have your refreshments ready at the beginning, so you don’t have to go on rogue supply runs that could disrupt the game flow outside of scheduled break. Checking a to-do list before a game and having a pre-game ritual is a perfect way of getting in the mood. If you have to take a phone call, answer the door, get coffee, or anything else during play - if it can't wait until the scheduled break - just write a quick note in the Discord chat and handle your business! Try and sneak off when the spotlight is on another player.

F. Preparations and notetaking

Take time before each session to review your character sheet, inventory, and any notes from previous sessions. Familiarize yourself with your character's abilities and potential actions. Make sure to have all your gaming materials ready, such as dice, pencils, and notebooks. For online sessions, log in a few minutes early to troubleshoot any technical issues. A big part of the game is taking notes and scribbling down bits and pieces of the puzzle as you venture along. This is more or less required, for players to be able to absorb the entire adventure together. Everybody does this differently, but you all have the same responsibilty to bring those different pieces to the puzzle. Also, if the GM asks you to read something, like a document, a piece of lore, or a recipe for good soup, read it.

G. Tech

Ensure your tech setup is functional before each session. This includes checking internet connectivity, audio/video quality, and access to necessary online platforms (like Discord, DnDBeyond). Be it computer or laptop with sufficient specs, a webcam or a dedicated microphone, considering the time spent playing makes buying proper equipment and hardware a guaranteed worthy investment. There is no financial threshold or requirement to play, but every player should aim to have adequate equipment. This is not only for your own sake, but more so the group that will listen and play in concert with you for hundreds of hours. The fees for hosting Foundry, WorldAnvil, DndBeyond and shared sourcebooks are covered by the GM.

H. Attendance and scheduling

Use the shared Google Calendar for reminders, and keeping track of upcoming sessions. This will eliminate hickups and unnecessary double bookings. Sessions will be postponed if the group has 2 or more absentees, ensuring significant plot moments are being experienced by the whole group. Notify the group as soon as possible if you cannot attend a scheduled session, allowing for adjustments or rescheduling if necessary. Sessions are played bi-weekly on weekends. Using our 2023 session schedule as a baseline, this is our current session progression:
  • 13:45-14:00 Idle catching up
  • 14:00 Last call, session start
